The Concrete Countertop Institute Announces July 2008 Design Class

Raleigh, NC - June 30, 2008 - The Concrete Countertop Institute (CCI), a hands-on educational resource dedicated to helping concrete countertop professionals succeed, has announced its inaugural design class. The class teaches concrete professionals a new approach to concrete countertops using three-dimensional (3-D) designs with Glass Fiber Reinforced Concrete (GFRC), advanced mold techniques, mix design formulas, and fireplace, shower and sink construction methods.  The class will be held July 21 through July 25 at the Concrete Countertop Institute in Raleigh and is entitled “Advanced 3-D Design with GFRC and More.”

The class features two world-class instructors, Jeff Girard of CCI and Jeremy French of Mandala Design.  Through their extensive experience and industry knowledge, Girard and French will give students the tools and confidence to analyze the design process and increase their ability to work with innovative tools used in casting concrete in three dimensions.

“This is a ‘must-attend’ class for experienced concrete countertop professionals looking to perfect their craft and increase sales,” said Lane Mangum, Sales and Marketing Manager of CCI.  “Not only does this class provide the best training for expert concrete countertop manufacture, but it also gives concrete countertop professionals the ability to provide their customers with state-of-the-art designs.”

Tuition for the class is $3195 and includes 5 full days of classroom and hands-on instruction, a free self-study mix design course, free technical support from CCI, three free months of Elite membership, course materials, and catered breakfasts, lunches, beverages and snacks.

 Concrete Countertops Making Bold Statements

Concrete Countertops are gaining popularity. Concrete is a construction material composed of cement as well as other cementitious materials such as fly ash and slag cement, aggregate, water, and chemical admixtures.

Granite has a medium to coarse texture, occasionally with some individual crystals larger than the groundmass forming a rock known as porphyry. This makes granite countertops an excellent choice. Granites can be pink to dark gray or even black, depending on their chemistry and mineralogy. Outcrops of granite tend to form tors, and rounded massifs. Granites sometimes occur in circular depressions surrounded by a range of hills, formed by the metamorphic aureole or hornfels.

The optical and physical properties of glass make it suitable for applications such as glass countertops.

Recycled countertops are made from things like paper, reclaimed wood, recycled cans, recycled plastic, recycled toilets, and recycled glass.

CounterTop Business magazine provides extensive information regarding countertop trends, countertop design, and recycled countertop material.

Marble is a nonfoliated metamorphic rock resulting from the metamorphism of limestone, composed mostly of calcite. It is extensively used for sculptures and now it's used quite often in the kitchen. Marble countertops add both a beautiful and classy look to any kitchen.

 Comments on Concrete Countertops

When you look for concrete countertops in the market, you can notice that these countertops come with subtle variations in color and finish. They are actually a combination of cement, lightweight aggregate and additives. Mottled colors are created by embedding glass or marble chips into the surface. Some artisans also offer veined, marble-like textures as well as clean monotones.

When some surfaces are polished to a low-sheen finish, others have an exposed sand-aggregate finish. You can personalize countertops by embedding fossils, medallions, coins, or other items in the surface. Because of the labor and artistry that go into making them, concrete countertops are considered a luxury product.
